Do you want to create a survey? November 12, 2007

I have been working with several teachers using ePearl as an assessment tool and presentation tool for parents. They are using ePearl as part of their triad conferencing. Students will show parents their work stored on ePearl. Parents will see that they can access ePearl from home also. They will be encouraged to comment on their child’s work. I really like ePearl as the tool for assessment / electronic portfolio.

Another tool I tried for the first time this week is Survey Monkey. A tool for creating web surveys. I wanted to survey a group of students and this was an easy tool to learn. Your free survey can contain a maximum of 10 questions, you may have several surveys. There are several types of questions that are fairly easy to configure. I could see using it as a teacher, but also as part of an assignments where students compose the questions and compile and present the data. You are given a weblink or code to embed your survey into blog or webpage.

Survey monkey is great for all sorts of things including quizzes and short tests. Too bad they called it “Monkey”but otherwise it is perfect.
How are you using it Janis and what response have you had?

I am using Survey Monkey for the first time, although I had looked at it before. I am surveying students in our division that have taken our online courses this term. This was our first attempt at an eLearning Campus so I am polling the students to learn their thoughts about course design, communication and the web tools used in their courses.

Janis, that’s a neat tool I’ll have to try it. Now that I have all (almost all) the email addresses for the staff who are doing LwICT training maybe it’ll be easier to get feedback and it will encourage the use of technology too!

I was interested to read your blog on how ePearl is being used by your colleagues and how you hope to use it with students. I haven’t heard of Survey Monkey. It sounds as if it could be used within a school to compliment the middle years math curriculum/programming re: graphing data etc.?

It is a good tool to use but try Zoomerang.
    Here is the website

We have used this at the school to survey students. The teachers took their students to the computer room and filled in the survey. It was great with the grade 9 students coming into our school and the Grade 12 for an exit survey.
